Starting Pre-Admission Orders for a Patient
All pre-admission orders begin in the Pre-Admit tab where the provider needs to search for the patient to see if the patient or patient visit exists in the system as follows:- Select the Pre-Admit tab, and then enter the name of the patient (Last name, First name) and the date of birth (Year, Month, Day).

Select the patient from the search results.
The Is this the right patient? window displays.If the patient is not listed in the search results, you need to manually register the patient. See Manually Adding a Patient for Pre-Admission Orders.

Review the patient information, and then click Yes if you have the correct patient.
The Select/Create Visit window displays.
- If your visit has a direct admission workflow for the Pre-Admission Type, see Entering Orders for a Direct Admission Visit.
- If your visit has a scheduled future visit workflow such as Labor and Delivery or Scheduled Surgery, see Entering Orders for a Future Inpatient Visit.
If you selected the wrong patient, click No to return to the search results to select another name from the search results and repeat this step. If you do not see the correct patient listed, see Manually Adding a Patient for Pre-Admission Orders.
Manually Adding a Patient for Pre-Admission Orders
If you search for your patient from the Pre-Admit tab and the patient does not exist in the system, you need to manually register the patient. The Add New Patient button displays when the search does not find a patient, and you use this button to manually register the patient and visit as follows:- Click the Add New Patient button. The Create Patient window displays.
- Enter the name of the patient (Last name, First name).
- Enter the date of birth (Year, Month, Day) if available or select the No DOB Available checkbox if date of birth is not known.
- Select the facility where the visit will happen from the Facility drop-down if it is not automatically selected, and then click the Pre-Admission Type workflow for the patient visit (for example, Direct Admission or Labor and Delivery).

Click Enter Orders to start entering your orders as follows:
- If your visit has a direct admission workflow for the Pre-Admission Type, see Entering Orders for a Direct Admission Visit.
- If your visit has a scheduled future visit workflow such as Labor and Delivery or Scheduled Surgery, see Entering Orders for a Future Inpatient Visit.
Entering Orders for a Direct Admission Visit
When you need to admit a patient immediately, you can create the inpatient visit using the direct admission workflow from the Pre-Admit tab. When you use any of these methods to start an order, you might see clinical decision support (CDS) alerts (see Reviewing Clinical Decision Support Alerts) You might also see alerts about drug or allergy interactions, or duplicate orders (see Reviewing Medication Interaction and Duplicate Order Alerts.) These alerts can provide clinical data or inform you of other issues related to an order.- Select the Pre-Admit tab, and then enter the name of the patient (Last name, First name) and the date of birth (Year, Month, Day).

- Review the patient information, and then click Yes if you have the correct patient. The Select/Create Visit window displays with a list of visits.

Choose one of the following:
- Select the visit if available in the system. Click the radio button in the Select visit column next to the visit Date column, and then click Enter Orders button.
- Select None of the Above if the listed visit(s) are not the correct visit by clicking the radio button next to None of the Above and then:
- Select the facility where the visit will happen from the Facility drop-down.
- Click the Direct Admission Type workflow for the patient visit.
- Click the Enter Orders button.
- Create the visit if no visit is available.
- Select the facility where the visit will happen from the Facility drop-down.
- Click the Direct Admission Type workflow for the patient visit.
- Click the Enter Orders button.
- Enter orders for your patient by either using your list of Favorite orders or searching and adding orders. See Adding New Orders for more information.
- Review warnings and alerts. See Reviewing Medication Interaction and Duplicate Order Alerts for instructions.

Sign and submit the orders. See Managing New and Existing Orders for instructions.
If you are not ready to submit your orders but do not want to lose what is currently entered, you can choose to save the orders in draft form for later submission. See Saving Orders as a Draft.
Entering Orders for a Future Inpatient Visit
If you selected a scheduled visit workflow such as Labor and Delivery or Scheduled Surgery, the Pre-Admission Order Entry window displays. You will see two areas (panes) to enter orders called Pre Admission Testing and Day of Admission Orders. Use the Pre Admission Testing pane to enter orders needing to be done prior to the scheduled visit and the Day of Admission Orders pane to enter orders for the day the patient arrives for the visit. To enter order for either the Pre Admission Testing pane or the Day of Admission Orders pane:- Select the Pre-Admit tab, and then enter the name of the patient (Last name, First name) and the date of birth (Year, Month, Day).

- Review the patient information, and then click Yes if you have the correct patient. The Select/Create Visit window displays with a list of visits.

Choose one of the following:

- Select None of the Above if the listed visit(s) are not the correct visit by clicking the radio button next to None of the Above and then:
- Select the facility where the visit will happen from the Facility drop-down.
- Click the Direct Admission Type workflow for the patient visit.
- Click the Enter Orders button.
- Create the visit if no visit is available.
- Select the facility where the visit will happen from the Facility drop-down.
- Click the desired workflow (for example, Labor and Delivery Type) for the patient visit.
- Click the Enter Orders button.

Enter orders to either the Pre Admission Testing pane or the Day of Admission Orders pane as follows:
- Add a Favorite order.
- Select the Favorites link in either the Pre Admission Testing pane or the Day of Admission Orders pane. The Favorites window displays.
- Select the order or order set from your list. The order/set of orders is added to the selected Order pane (Pre Admission Testing or the Day of Admission Orders)
- Add any additional orders by repeating the previous steps until all orders are entered.
- Search and add an order or order set.
- Enter the order into the Search window from the Pre Admission Testing pane or the Day of Admission Orders pane.
- Select the order or order set from the search results.
- Make any changes needed to the Order Details of the order/order set, and then click OK (order) or Done with Order Set (order set). The order/set of orders is added to the selected Order pane (Pre Admission Testing or the Day of Admission Orders).
- Add any additional orders by repeating the previous steps until all orders are entered.
- Review warnings and alerts. See Reviewing Medication Interaction and Duplicate Order Alerts for instructions.

Sign and submit the orders. See Managing New and Existing Orders for instructions.

Adding Additional Pre-Admission Orders
You can to add additional orders to the pre-admission visit after you have done the initial submitting of orders as follows:This section documents adding additional pre-admission orders using the Pre-Admit tab to find the patient visit and enter the pre-admission order entry screen. You can also select the patient visit and enter the pre-admission order entry screen as documented in Starting An Order.
- Select the Pre-Admit tab, and then enter the name of the patient (Last name, First name) and the date of birth (Year, Month, Day).

- Review the patient information, and then click Yes if you have the correct patient. The Select/Create Visit window displays with a list of visits.
- Click the radio button in the Select visit column next to the visit Date column, and then click Enter Orders button. The Pre-Admission Order Entry screen displays. You will see the Existing Pre-Admission Orders link.
- Click Existing Pre-Admission Orders link to review these orders prior to entering new orders.

Click the New Pre-Admissions Orders link to return to the Pre-Admission Order Entry screen and add your orders.
- If your visit has a direct admission workflow for the Pre-Admission Type, see Entering Orders for a Direct Admission Visit.
- If your visit has a scheduled future visit workflow such as Labor and Delivery or Scheduled Surgery, see Entering Orders for a Future Inpatient Visit.
Saving Pre-Admission Orders as a Draft
If while adding orders for a patient you get interrupted and need to temporarily stop the ordering process, you can save the unsubmitted orders as a draft and return later to complete them.- To save unsubmitted orders as a draft, click the Save as Draft button at the bottom of the Pre-Admission Order Entry screen. You will exit the Pre-Admission Order Entry window and be returned to the tab where you launched the Pre-Admission Order Entry screen. If you log out while orders are still in draft status, the Unsubmitted Orders dialog displays. Proceed to the next step.

Upon logging out with draft orders saved, you can choose any of the following actions:
- Click Continue Ordering to return to the Pre-Admission Order Entry window to either complete (Sign/Submit) the draft orders or remove (Cancel) the draft orders. To resume order entry, select the patient from the patient list and then click Add next to the Orders option. The Pre-Admission Order Entry window displays with the saved unsubmitted orders.
- Click Keep Orders and Exit Commure Pro to keep the orders saved as drafts for a later order session. Log back in to resume order entry for this patient, select the patient from the patient list and then click Add next to the Orders option. The Pre-Admission Order Entry window displays with the saved unsubmitted orders.
- Click Discard Orders and Exit Commure Pro if you do not wish to keep the orders for a future order entry session.
If you should need to save the orders again as a draft while in order entry, you must click the Save as Draft button again. Clicking the Cancel button will delete any unsubmitted orders and then exit you out of the Pre-Admission Order Entry window.
Viewing Submitted Pre-Admission Orders
Select the patient pre-admission visit from your patient list and then either:This section documents viewing submitted pre-admission orders using the Pre-Admit tab to find the patient visit and then enter the pre-admission order entry screen. You can also select the patient visit and enter the pre-admission order entry screen as documented in Starting An Order.
- Select the Pre-Admit tab, and then enter the name of the patient (Last name, First name) and the date of birth (Year, Month, Day).

The Is this the right patient window displays.If the patient is not listed in the search results, you need to manually register the patient. See Manually Adding a Patient for Pre-Admission Orders.
- Review the patient information, and then click Yes if you have the correct patient. The Select/Create Visit window displays with a list of visits.
- Click the radio button in the Select visit column next to the visit Date column, and then click Enter Orders button. The Pre-Admission Order Entry screen displays. You will see the Existing Pre-Admission Orders link.
- Click Existing Pre-Admission Orders link to review these orders.
Discontinuing Existing Pre-Admission Orders
You can discontinue any submitted pre-admission order prior to the visit date as follows:- Select the Existing Pre-Admission Orders link within the Pre-Admission Order Entry window for the pre-admission visit where you wish to discontinue an existing pre-admission order. See Viewing Submitted Pre-Admission Orders for more information.
- Hover over the order you wish to discontinue until the DC icon displays and then click the icon. The order grays out with a strike through the order.
- Select the New Pre-Admissions Orders link to return to the Pre-Admission Order Entry screen. You will see the discontinued order.
- Click Sign/Submit to discontinue the order.
