Test Results at a Glance
The Test Results module displays the selected patient’s recent test results in an easy-to-scan Summary list.- The patient heading row shows the selected patient’s name, age, gender, location, and MRN. Use this information to verify that this is the right patient.
- The module heading row displays the number of Test Results for the patient, such as “Test Results (9 of 9)”. When you apply a filter, this line is updated. For example, if only two Test Results match the filter, the message is updated to “Test Results (5 of 9)”.
- Each Test Result is displayed on a separate line that shows the Test name, and the Date and Time of the test, and the Status (such as Final, Pending, or Preliminary; your institution might use different status names). The line may also show the Source of the test result information (the hospital or practice from which it was derived).
- An X-ray icon is displayed next to any test result that has an image associated with it, such as might be the case for EKGs, echocardiograms, or CT scans. Tap the icon to view the image. The icon is present only if your organization has implemented the optional Mobile Imaging feature. See Viewing Images Associated with Test Results.
- To see the full textual report for a particular test, tap the name of the test. The Test Results Details are displayed. See Viewing Test Result Details.
Filtering Test Results
You can use a filter to limit the number of test results that are displayed on the Summary list. For example, you might filter the list to see only one type of test, such as Radiology test results. The module header row keeps track of the number of test results currently displayed for the patient. For example, when no filter is applied, you might see “Test Results (9)” in the header, and all of the available tests displayed in the summary list. If a filter is applied, the Filter button is displayed at the top of the summary list, with a label describing the filter criteria. For example, you might see “Test Results (2)” in the module header, and the Filter button labeled, “Filtered by: Radiology” to indicate that only the Radiology tests are shown. If you apply more than one filter, the module header counts the combined number, and the Filter button label lists each of the filters that are applied. To apply a filter for Test Results, follow these steps:-
Tap Filter in the upper right corner of the Test Results Summary screen.
The Filters screen is displayed and shows the following:
- The top of the screen displays a list of Filter Terms. The currently selected filter(s) are indicated by a checkmark.
- Below the Filter Terms, you may see additional filters by Source (the hospital or practice from which the test result information was derived), if your organization has implemented the Health Information Exchange feature and it is enabled in your user profile. The currently selected filter(s) are indicated by a checkmark.
- Select or deselect one or more filters from the Filter Terms or Sources. If some but not all of the filters are selected, a Select All button is available at the bottom of the screen; tap Select All to select all of the available filters. If all of the filters are selected, a Deselect All button is available; tap Deselect All to deselect of the filters.
- Tap Done. The test results that match the filter criteria are displayed. If you selected more than one filter, the filters are ORed. For example, if you selected both the Cardiac and Radiology filters, then any test results that are of the type Cardiac or Radiology are displayed.
To go back to showing all of the test results for the patient
- From the Test Results Summary list, tap Filter in the top-right corner of the screen.
- At the bottom of the Filters screen, tap Select All, and then tap Done. All of the available test results are displayed in the Test Results Summary list.
Viewing Test Result Details
The Summary list displays a high-level status report of recent test results, with each test summarized on a separate line. This might be all you need when you are evaluating a patient’s test results. By scanning the list, you can avoid ordering duplicate tests. For any given test result listed on the Summary, there is always a Detail screen that contains either a text-based report, or a report in PDF format. In addition, a test result might also have images associated with it. The instructions for viewing all of these items are below:- Viewing the Details of Text-Based Test Results
- Viewing the Details of PDF Test Results
- Viewing Images Associated with Test Results
Viewing the Details of Text-Based Test Results
To review the details of a text-based test result:- From the Test Results Summary screen, tap a test result to select it. The Details screen opens and displays the report for that test result. The top of the screen contains a heading with fields for Test name and Date. The fields that are available depend on your source system. If your organization has implemented the Health Information Exchange feature and it is enabled in your user profile, you will also see a field for Source (the hospital or practice from which the test result information was derived).
- The body of the test result report is listed below the heading; scroll up or down to view the full text of the report. When you review a report, like a Micro Blood Culture, preserving the column formatting is important so that the columns of data line up correctly. Commure Pro automatically uses a fixed-width font when there are tables of data. If this is the case, sometimes the report is wider than the screen; scroll left and right to view the full text. If the report does not contain any tables, a variable-width font is used. Although in most cases you do not need to switch between fixed-width or variable-with font, you can switch if necessary.
- Move to the Details screen for the next test result in the patient’s Summary list. Swipe right to left.
- Move to the Details screen for the previous test result in the patient’s Summary list. Swipe left to right.
If a test result is displayed in fixed-width font, then when you swipe right or left, you go only to the left or right edge of the report. Tap Font to switch to variable-width font, and then you can swipe to the next or previous test result.

- Go back to the Test Results Summary. Tap Back .
- Order the same test again for this patient. If the CPOE Orders module is implemented at your organization, and also enabled in your user profile, you can place a new order for this same test by tapping the Order Again button at the top right of the screen.
Using Fixed Font for Text-Based Test Results
When viewing a text-based report on the Test Results Detail screen, the application automatically uses a variable-width font for regular text, and a fixed-width font when there are tables of data. Fixed-width font uses mono-spacing to make the columns in tables line up correctly. You can switch between the two fonts at any time. To switch between variable-width and fixed-width font:- From the Test Results Summary list, select the test you want to review. The Details screen opens and displays the report in either fixed font or variable font.
- Tap Font, located in the upper right corner.

Viewing the Details of PDF Test Results
If the test result is in a PDF format, you can view the document on your device.- From the Test Results Summary screen, select the test you want to review. The Details screen opens and displays the PDF document.
- You can use the standard Apple gestures for zooming in or out (expand or pinch), or you can scroll vertically or horizontally to focus on any portion of the test result. From the Details screen you can:
- Go back to the Test Results Summary. Tap Back.
Viewing Images Associated with Test Results
If your organization has implemented the optional Mobile Imaging feature, you can view the images associated with certain tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, or radiologic tests. When implemented, the Test Results Summary screen displays an X-ray button in the far right column for any report that has an image associated with it. This feature is available only both iPad and iPhone devices.- From the Test Results Summary screen, tap the X-ray button for the test result whose image(s) you want to view.
- Manipulate the images as desired. Depending on the type of images available for the test, there may be additional controls at the bottom of the screen that allow you to move to the next or previous image, select the number of images to display at once, play or pause the video, zoom in or out, and so on. If your device is in landscape mode, you may need to scroll down to view these controls.
- When you are done viewing the images, tap Back to go back to the Test Results Summary.
