Most of the time it is not necessary to remove a patient visit from a patient list, since visits are automatically removed from patient lists, based on the list’s time-based criteria for the removal of visits. In the case of a patient visit that you manually added to a patient list, the visit is automatically removed based on the list’s removal criteria, or after the number of days specified by a setting in your user profile (whichever results in the visit staying on the list the longest amount of time). Or if the list’s removal criteria specifies that patients should be removed immediately upon discharge, then they are removed as soon as they are discharged, regardless of whether or not they were manually added. In addition to the automatic removals described above, you also have the option to at any time manually remove one or more patient visits from a patient list, in order to keep a short, usable list of active patients. You can do this, as long as the list’s definition allows manual removals. Keep in mind that removing a patient from a patient list does not delete the patient from the organization’s census list, and you can always re-add that patient to the same or another patient list at a later time. There are some special considerations to keep in mind when removing patient visits from an Assignment or View type of list (see Types of Patient Lists for an explanation of the different types of lists):
  • When removing a patient from an Assignment list (whether you are working from the master assignment list, the Unassigned sublist, or a named sublist), the patient is removed from both the master assignment list and the sublist to which the patient is currently assigned.
  • When removing a patient from a View, keep in mind that this type of patient list is a view onto other Lists and/or Views. As a result, the patient is actually removed from the source List(s), not the View. In addition, the same conditions described above for add/remove permissions must be met for the source List(s). The Remove Patient function behaves as follows when using it from a View:
    • If the View is composed of only one source List, the patient is automatically removed from that List.
    • If the View is composed of more than one source List, but you have permission to remove patients from only one of those Lists, the patient is automatically removed from that List.
    • If the View is composed of more than one source List, and you have permission to remove patients from more than one of them, you are prompted to select the source List(s) from which you want to remove the patient (you can choose more than one).
To remove one or more patient visits from the current patient list:
  1. From the Patient List screen, perform either a or b below:
  2. To remove a single patient visit from the current patient list, swipe right-to-left on that patient’s row. When the context buttons appear, select Remove (if available), or select More and then choose Remove from the menu. Skip to Step 4.

The Manage Patients screen displays showing all of the patients from the current patient list with an empty radio button to the right of each name. If a patient was currently selected on the patient list prior to selecting Edit, that patient is already selected by default (the radio button is checked). Continue to the next step.
  1. Select the radio button to the right of any additional patients that you want to remove. Or, choose Select All at the top left of the screen to select all of the patients at once. You can also unselect the patient that was selected by default, if you do not want to remove that patient after all.
A purple checkmark is shown to the right of the patient name. Remove (n) displays at the bottom of the screen and keeps a running count of how many patients are selected.
  1. Select Remove (n).
  2. Depending on the type of list from which you are removing the patient(s), either of these can now occur:
    • If you are working from a List or Assignment type of list, or if you are working from a View that is composed of only one source List from which you are allowed to remove patients, the patient(s) are removed from the current list or source list immediately.
    • If you are working from a View that is composed of more than one source List from which you are allowed to remove patients, those Lists are now displayed. Select the source List from which you want to remove the patient(s) (you can choose more than one) and then tap Save. The patient(s) are removed from the patient list(s).
