The Reassign Patient option is available only when using an Assignment type of list. Assignment lists are typically used in situations where responsibility for a pool of patients is shared among different individual providers, or teams of providers. Assignment lists have three components: the master assignment list (the entire pool of patients needing assignment), two or more named sublists (the providers or teams to which they are assigned), and the Unassigned sublist (the patients who have not yet been assigned to a named sublist). See Types of Patient Lists for a more complete description of Assignment type lists. Providers and/or administrators will need to assign patients from the master list of patients to one of the sublists. Or in some cases, a patient may need to be reassigned from one sublist to a different sublist, or back to the Unassigned sublist. If the assignment feature is enabled for in your user profile, you can make the following types of changes:

Reassigning Patients from the Master Assignment List on Apple iPad Devices

When using an iPad™, the workflow for reassigning patients from the master assignment list to a sublist is different, depending on whether you want to reassign just a single patient, or multiple patients. To reassign a single patient from a master assignment list to a sublist, the steps are the same as if you were using an iPhone. Follow the steps described in Reassigning a Patient from the Master Assignment List on Apple iPhone Devices. To reassign multiple patients from a master assignment list to a sublist, follow these steps:
  1. In the Patient List screen, select a master assignment list. See Switching Patient Lists for instructions on how to select a patient list.
  2. Tap Edit at the top left of the screen. The Manage Patients screen displays.
  3. Select the radio button to the right of any patient in the list.
A purple checkmark is shown to the right of the patient name. Assign (n) displays at the bottom of the screen and keeps a running count of how many patients are selected.
  1. Select Assign (n) at the bottom of the screen. The Master Assignment screen displays.
  2. Check the box next to each of sublists that you want to move patients to and from. For example, if you want to move patients from the Unassigned sublist to the “ER Gold Team” you would check the box next to those two items. Or, you can check all of the boxes to work with all of the sublists at once. For each sublist that you select, a column is displayed on the screen. Each column shows the name and location of all of the patients that are currently on that sublist. Please note that if a particular list is too long to fit on the screen, you cannot scroll up or down. Instead, use the Page Up and Page Down arrows located at the top of each sublist, so that you can see the next set of patients.
  3. Select one or more patients by tapping on their row(s) or using the Select All button (the rows are then highlighted in orange). Drag the selected patient(s) from one sublist, and drop them onto another sublist. Once a patient is moved to a different sublist, they are highlighted in green, so that you can clearly see the changes that you have made so far. If you make a mistake, simply drag the patient back to their original list.
  4. Tap Done when you are finished distributing the patients among the sublists. The Manage Patients screen displays.
The Master Assignment screen does not use any of the selections made on the Manage Patients screen. It only recognizes changes done in the Master Assignment screen.
  5. Tap Done to return to the Patient List screen.
