The Lab Results module displays a summary of lab results for the selected patient. From this list, you can select a lab panel to review the component values, then see trending for any individual lab result component.

Lab Results at a Glance

The Lab Results module opens with the selected patient’s recent laboratory tests listed in an easy-to-scan summary.
  • The module heading row shows the number of lab results, such as “Lab Results (31 of 31).” When you apply a filter, this line is updated. For example, “Lab Results (6 of 31)” indicates that six lab results out of thirty one match the filter and are displayed on the list.
  • The patient heading row shows the selected patient’s name, age, gender, location, code status, and an additional identifier such as DOB, MRN, or account/visit number. An asterisk after the code status indicates that there are additional comments. You can tap on this heading to go directly to the Patient Details module, where you can view the code status comments, as well as other details for the patient.
  • Each Lab Result is displayed in its own line. The left side of the row shows the panel name, date and time of the lab, highest normalcy status (Critical, Abnormal, Normal), and lowest completion status (such as Pending or Final). The left column may also show the Source of the lab result information (the hospital or practice from which it was derived). The right side of the row displays the components and the resulted values, as well as panel diagrams for CBC and Chem7 (if they have been mapped at your institution).
  • Components are color-coded. Critical values are highlighted in red, and abnormal values are highlighted in yellow.
  • A blue asterisk (*) indicates that there is a comment about that component.
  • From the Summary list, you can select a lab result and step through a series of screens that show progressively more detailed information. See Viewing Lab Results Details.

Filtering Lab Results

Use a filter to limit the number of Lab Results that are displayed on the Summary list. Most organizations have a standard set of filters based on the type of lab result, such as “Hematology” or “Chemistry.” In this case, a “Hematology” filter would include just the Hematology lab results. The module header row keeps track of the number of lab results currently displayed for the patient. For example, when no filter is applied, you might see “Lab Results (9 of 9)” in the header, and all of the available labs displayed in the summary list. If a filter is applied, the Filter button is displayed at the top of the summary list, with a label describing the filter criteria. For example, you might see “Lab Results (2 of 9)” in the module header, and the Filter button labeled, “Filtered by: Hematology” to indicate that only the Hematology labs are shown. If you apply more than one filter, the module header counts the combined number, and the Filter button label lists each of the filters that are applied. To apply a standard filter for Lab Results, follow these steps:
  1. Tap Filter in the upper right corner of the Lab Results Summary screen.
view lab results.06.3.1 If you do not see the Filter button, tap More and choose Filter. The Filters screen is displayed and shows the list of filters. The currently selected filter(s) are indicated by a checkmark.
  1. Select or deselect one or more filters from the list of filters. If some but not all of the filters are selected, a Select All button is available at the bottom of the screen; tap Select All to select all of the available filters. If all of the filters are selected, a Deselect All button is available; tap Deselect All to deselect of the filters.
  2. Tap Done. The Lab Results Summary screen displays with the lab results that match the filter criteria. The filter(s) remain selected until you choose something different.

To go back to showing all of the lab results for the patient

  1. From the Lab Results Summary list, tap Filter in the top-right corner of the screen.
view lab results.06.3.3 If you do not see the Filter button, tap More and choose Filter.
  1. At the bottom of the Filters screen, tap Select All, and then tap Done. All of the available lab results are displayed in the Lab Results Summary list.

Viewing Lab Results Details

The Commure Pro system organizes lab results into panels and components. A panel can consist of a single component, or a group of components that are performed together. For example, a Prothrombin Time (PT) panel might consist of that single component, while a Complete Blood Count (CBC) panel might consist of a variety of components such as a hematocrit, a hemoglobin, a white blood count, and a platelet count. You can review exactly the level of information that you want for a patient.
  • The Lab Results module opens with a Summary list that displays all the current lab panels for the selected patient. Scrolling through the list, you can see at a glance if there are Abnormal (yellow) or Critical (red) results, or other labs or panels you want to review.
  • Selecting an item displays progressively more detailed information. For example, you can select a CBC panel on the Summary to view either the Panel Details View or the Panel Table View (see Displaying Panel Details View or Panel Table View). The Panel Details View displays a list of the components in the panel, along with the value and normal range for each component. The Panel Table View displays a list of the components in the panel along with the value for each, and also shows the values from all other occurrences of the same panel.
  • From either the Panel Details View or the Panel Table View, you can then select a component (like Hct) to see the details of the component, or the component graphed over time.
    • The Details view displays the details of the individual component, such as the collected date/time, the result value, the normal range, the completion status, and any comments. To look at this view, select the Details tab at the top of the screen.

  • The Graph view offers a different look at the data, where multiple data points on a single graph show trends over time. To look at a graph, select the Graph tab at the top of the screen. See also Graphing Lab Component Trends.- From the both Details view and the Graph view you can:

  • Move to the Details or Graph screen for the next component in the currently selected panel. Swipe left or right to move to the next component in that direction
  • Go back to the Panel Details View or Panel Table View and select a different component. Tap the Back button .
  • Go back to the Summary list and select a different panel. Tap the Back button again.

Displaying Panel Details View or Panel Table View

When you select a lab result from the Lab Results Summary, either the Panel Details View or the Panel Table View is displayed. Panel Details View is the default view, but you can easily switch back and forth between views. Once you start switching views, the view that you last used remains selected until you choose something else. To switch between Panel Details View and Panel Table View:
  1. From the Lab Results Summary, tap any lab result row to display either the Panel Details View or the Panel Table View (the view you last used is displayed).
  2. To switch the view, tap More > Panel Table View. The Panel Table View menu option is a toggle feature that turns Panel Table View on or off. When Panel Table View is the current view, then the Panel Details View menu option becomes available in the menu. Conversely, when Panel Detail View is the current view, then the Panel Table View menu option is available.
The differences between the two views are described below:
  • Panel Details View displays information about the currently selected panel only; this is just one specific instance of the lab test. For example, if you select the April 12th instance of the Chem7 panel, you see information about only the April 12th lab test. The Panel Details View lists all of the components in the panel, along with the value and normal range for each component. If you select any component’s row, the component Details or Graph screen is displayed (depending on which screen you viewed last) for the currently selected lab result.
  • Panel Table View displays information about all occurrences of the currently selected panel. For example, if you initially select the April 12th occurrence of the Chem7 panel, you see information about the April 12th lab test, as well as information about all other Chem7 panels that the patient had. The panel instances are displayed in a table format with all of the components listed vertically on the left, and the dates and times of each occurrence along the top from left to right. The table cells contain the numeric results for each component. The ability to view the other instances of the same panel, along with the specific instance in which you were originally interested, allows you to identify any trends in the clinical data. While viewing the panel table, you can swipe left and right, as well as up and down. If you select any component’s row, the component Details or Graph screen is displayed (depending on which screen you viewed last) for the currently selected lab result.
Graphing is available at the lab component level. A graph is most useful to see how a component is trending over time, compared to looking at the most recent value. Multiple values are graphed so that you can review the patient’s progress. Most Lab Results are numeric. However, if a Lab Result contains any non-numeric characters (for example, “straw” or “+2” or “<.5”), then it is not included on the graph, and message to that effect is displayed.
  1. From the Lab Results Summary screen, select any lab result panel (such as a CBC). The Panel Details View or the Panel Table View is displayed, depending on the last view that you used.
  2. Select a row for a specific component (such as K for potassium). The component Graph or Detail view is displayed, depending on the last view that you used.
  3. If the Graph view is displayed, you need do nothing else. If the Detail view is displayed, select the Graph tab at the top of the screen switch to that view.
LabResultsComponentGraphBtn The normal bounds for the component are within the green band. Values in the red areas (above and below the green band) are outside the normal range. When you first open the graph, the value for the currently selected component result shows as a red point, while all other values appear as black points. While looking at the Graph view, you can also perform these additional actions:
  • Select a data point on the graph. When you select a data point, it turns into a red circle, and the date and value for that point are displayed on the Details tab. To select a data point, tap the data point.

Viewing Component Details

You can see all of the available details for a specific component, such as the collected date/time, the result value, the normal range, the completion status, and any comments.
  3. If the Details view is displayed, you need do nothing else. If the Graph view is displayed, select the Details tab at the top of the screen switch to that view.
