The I/Os module displays fluid balances, which represent the totals of fluid intake and fluid output, as well as the net, or the difference between the total intake and total output. Intake and output components that are not fluids (stool count and number of breast feedings) are not included in these calculations. The I/Os module provides an event set to designate which components are included in fluid balance calculations, and which components are excluded.

I/Os At A Glance

The I/Os module opens with a Summary list of fluid measures for the selected patient.
  • The module heading row shows the number of I/Os for the patient, such as “I/Os (6 of 6).”
  • The patient heading row shows the selected patient’s name, age, gender, location, code status, and an additional identifier such as DOB, MRN, or account/visit number. An asterisk after the code status indicates that there are additional comments. You can tap on this heading to go directly to the Patient Details module, where you can view the code status comments, as well as other details for the patient.
  • Each total or individual I/O is displayed on its own line. The left column shows the name of the total (such as Net, Intake, and Output) or the name of the individual I/O (such as CT, IVF, Urine, or po), along with the units in which it is measured. Next are one or more columns representing all of the measurements for a particular time interval, such as 8 or 24 hours. By default, the time interval for each column is eight hours. However, you can change the time interval for the columns as needed (see Changing the Time Interval on the I/Os Summary). No matter which time interval you choose, the columns are always displayed in reverse chronological order, with the most recent data in the left-most column, and older data to the right. You can scroll left and right, as well as up and down, to see all of the data in the table.
  • From the Summary screen, you can select a specific I/O and view the details of all the measurements. To view this information, select any table cell in the Summary screen. See Viewing I/O Details for more information.

Changing the Time Interval on the I/Os Summary

By default, the time interval for each column on the I/Os Summary is eight hours. However, you can change the time interval for the columns as needed. For example, you could change it to any of the following intervals: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 12, or 24 hours. The time interval that you choose remains selected until you choose something different.
  1. Select the More button and then select Change Shifts.
  2. Select the desired number of hours for the interval (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, etc) and then tap OK. A sync immediately starts and the following message is displayed in red at the top of the screen: “IOs will display using new interval when the sync finishes.” Once the sync completes, the columns are displayed using the new interval.

Viewing I/O Details

Select any item on the I/Os Summary to see more detailed information about it in a list format. For example, for any specific I/O type, such as IVF or Urine, you can see the exact measurements and the dates and times that they were recorded. Or, for a summed total such as Net, Intake, or Output, you can see a list of the individual totals per time interval. Just select any table cell in the I/Os Summary to see the Detail view. A list of all the measurements for that item is displayed. In addition, the specific measurements that make up the total in the cell that you chose are highlighted in blue. From the Details screen you can:
  • Swipe up or down to view all of the entries for the selected intake/output.
  • Go back to the Summary list and select a different intake/output. Select the Back button .
