This page is adapted from iOS documentation. Some navigation paths and button labels are presented in their Android form.
Prerequisites
Before you can record your first encounter, the following must be in place:- Organization enablement — Ambient AI is enabled per organization via feature flag. If you do not see the option to start a recording, contact your Commure Pro representative.
- Microphone permission — Commure Pro needs access to your device microphone. Go to Settings > Apps > Commure Pro > Permissions and confirm the Microphone permission is allowed.
- Patient consent — Tapping the Record button confirms you have obtained consent from the required parties. If your organization has enabled the consent pop-up, you will be prompted to confirm before recording begins.
How It Works
Select a patient and start recording
From the Patient List, swipe left on a patient and tap New Scribe. Choose a note template that determines how the AI structures the output. Tap Start Recording — the timer begins and the app captures your conversation using the device microphone.
AI generates your note
When the encounter is finished, tap Save. The audio uploads in the background and the AI parses the conversation, populating structured note sections based on your selected template. You can navigate away while the upload completes.
Quick Start
The fastest path from patient to completed note:- Open the Patient List and swipe left on your patient.
- Tap New Scribe.
- Select a note template from the dropdown.
- Tap Start Recording and conduct the encounter.
- Tap Save when finished.
- Open the note from your notes list, review the generated content, and transfer it to the EHR.
You can also start a recording from the patient detail screen by tapping the + button and selecting New Scribe. If you need to pause mid-encounter, the recording can be resumed later via Resume Scribe.
Smart Suggestions
When enabled, Ambient learns from your edits as you work. As you correct or refine generated notes, the system captures those changes as implicit feedback and adapts future notes to match your documentation style — no explicit feedback form required. Once a week (on a configurable day), you will see a full-screen Smart Suggestions prompt when you open the app, surfacing any new learned preferences that are ready to review. The prompt lets you approve or dismiss each suggestion before it is applied to future notes.Smart Suggestions sits inside AI Studio and works alongside Custom Formatting, Dot Phrases, Macros, and Personal Dictionary. Where those features let you set preferences explicitly, Smart Suggestions infers them from your actual editing patterns over time.
Feature Ecosystem
Ambient AI works with several related features to give you control over the full documentation workflow:| Feature | What It Does |
|---|---|
| AI Studio | Central hub for configuring how notes are generated. Access Custom Formatting, Dot Phrases, Macros, and Personal Dictionary from Settings > AI Studio. |
| Custom Formatting | Set per-template rules for tone, structure, section format (bullets vs. paragraphs), and detail level. Rules apply to every future note for that template. |
| Dot Phrases | Create voice triggers that expand into predefined text during note generation — say “belly” and the note writes “abdomen.” |
| Macros | Define reusable content (dynamic or static) that is automatically injected into specific note sections on a per-template basis. |
| Personal Dictionary | Correct commonly misrecognized medication names, abbreviations, or proper nouns in your transcriptions. |
| Smart Suggestions | Approve preferences the AI infers from your editing patterns and applies to future notes. |
AI Studio is enabled per organization. If you do not see this feature, contact your Commure Pro representative.
After Your Note Is Generated
Once a note is ready, you have several options before transferring it to the EHR:- Edit inline — tap to correct wording, add details, or remove extraneous content
- Resume Scribe — re-record additional context (corrections, addenda, post-encounter notes) and the AI incorporates it into the existing note
- Change Template — select a different template and the AI regenerates the note from the original recording
- View Transcript — review the original recorded conversation to verify accuracy
- Rate this Scribe — provide thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback to improve future note quality
Tips for Best Results
- Position your device so the microphone can clearly capture both you and the patient. Avoid placing it in a pocket or face-down.
- Check the volume meter — if it is not moving, verify microphone permissions in your device settings.
- Use multi-syllable trigger words for Dot Phrases and Macros, as they are recognized more reliably than short words.
- Use Custom Formatting for recurring preferences — feedback is best for one-off corrections, while formatting rules apply automatically to every future note.
- Answering an incoming call pauses the recording — tap Resume after hanging up to continue. If a call rings unanswered while your phone is in Ring mode, recording pauses; in Vibrate or Silent mode it continues uninterrupted. See Troubleshooting for details.
