# Signing Out

> The Commure Pro Sign-Out module may be available on your Apple® device, if your organization has implemented this feature, and if you have been.

The Commure Pro Sign-Out module may be available on your Apple® device, if your organization has implemented this feature, and if you have been granted access to it.

When enabled, a "Sign-Out" module is listed on the **Modules** screen, and you can use it to enter sign-out comments into a single free-text field, known as the *scratchpad*. The scratchpad facilitates communication between providers when handing off care for a patient during shift changes.

To use Sign-Out, you select a patient and a department, and then view or enter comments in the scratchpad field for that department. Once you save your scratchpad comments, they are submitted to the server, and they become available for viewing or editing by other users.

Sign-out information is always associated with a department. A patient has only *one* *set* of sign-out data per department. For example, the Internal Medicine department and the Cardiology department can each have *one set* of sign-out information associated with the patient Molly Darr.

Sign-Out also has a companion Sign-Out web application. On the web, you have access the same scratchpad field, and can also enter additional information such as DNR status, primary care provider, or family contact information. You can even enter a list of tasks that need to be completed and track their status. See the Commure Pro Web help system for more information.

## Sign-Out at a Glance

The Sign-Out module displays the sign-out scratchpad for the selected patient, for one department at a time. It shows the following information:

* The patient heading row shows the selected patient's name, age, gender, location, and an additional identifier such as DOB, MRN, or account number. Use this information to verify that this is the right patient.
* The **Department** drop-down field shows the currently selected department, and the **Scratchpad** field shows the scratchpad comments that are currently on file in that department for the patient. The comments could have been entered by you, or by a different provider. Each department can have their own scratchpad comments for a given patient.
* To view the scratchpad for a different department, just select that department from the **Department** drop-down field. If you belong to only one department that is configured for Sign-Out, the **Department** field is a view-only field.
* To enter, edit or delete the scratchpad comments, see *[Entering, Editing, or Deleting Scratchpad Comments](#entering-editing-or-deleting-scratchpad-comments)*.
